My Nighttime Skincare Routine

Nighttime Skincare Routine for Winter Dryness by Joanna Kula owner of Skin Devotee Facial Studio

As winter weather continues to create a really dry environment for my skin, I focus on keeping it healthy by nourishing it and adding a lot of hydration back into my skin.

To achieve this, I use a skincare routine that combines ingredients and techniques that will leave my skin glowing the next day.

Nighttime Skincare Routine Steps

Step 1 - Double Cleanse

For the first cleanse, I wash my face with an oil cleanser to remove all impurities, sunscreen and make-up, and then use a wash cloth to remove it.

This cleansing oil is a two-in-one makeup remover and cleanser with a nutrient-rich blend of radiance-boosting oils that gently melt away dirt, oil, makeup and impurities for a hydrated, healthy-looking glow.

For the second cleanse, I use a gentle cleanser that will not strip my skin.

This soothing gel-emulsion gently cleanses skin, removes makeup, and instantly calms thin sensitive skin. It has a balanced formula that is effective, gentle, and leaves your skin hydrated, soft and fresh.

Step 2 - Detox Mask

I use an activated charcoal mask to purify my skin. I apply and leave the mask on for 5 minutes.

This is an ultra-purifying and uber gentle, Activated Charcoal Mask that works like a magnet to draw out pore-clogging dirt, oil and daily impurities while cleansing away age-accelerating pollutants for a flawlessly fresh, smoother-looking and clarified complexion.

Next I always use a toner for my morning and nighttime skincare routines. For this routine I'm using a resurfacing toner with 10% Glycolic acid because it exfoliates my skin without irritating it or causing it to react.

This toner helps to effectively sweep away dead skin cells, evens-out tone, helps the skin retain moisture, speeds-up cell turnover, and deals with excess oil and breakouts. This toner is suitable for all skin types, except Sensitive skin.

Step 3 - Apply A Serum

I love Recovery Serum since it helps to balance, heal and nourish my skin. I amp it up a little bit by mixing a booster with it.

Products Featured In This Video:

This serum contains purified molecules of Centella asiatica, ectoin and an award-winning cyclopeptide to augment the skin's response to daily stress, jetlag, sun abuse, aesthetic procedures and serious partying. Suitable for all skin types, even oily and blemish-prone skins.

Mix this booster with a serum to augment the serum. This booster contains Niacinamide that strengthens the skin’s barrier function, helps to unify the skin tone and brightens the complexion. Suitable for all skin types especially oily, blemish prone skins.

Step 4 - Hydrating Mask

Instead of a moisturizing cream, I use a hydrating mask that can also intensely hydrate and sooth the parched skin during these harsh cold days of winter.

A hydrating mask is also good for doing a "lazy mask", where you can apply and massage it in, go to sleep with it on, and then remove it in the morning when you cleanse your skin.

This mask contains milk of iris which is nourishing and protective. I use a dime size amount to massage into my skin, until my face looks like a glazed donut. Yum!

This is a soft, creamy mask that reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as it hydrates and soothes the skin. It is enriched with the luxurious “Milk” of the Iris Flower. Suitable for Dehydrated, Normal to Dry, Very Dry and Sensitive Skin.

Pro Tips: When it comes to face massage, there are only 2 rules:

  1. Always lift as you move in an upward direction and glide sideways
  2. Never drag the face down

Step 5 - Eyes & Lips

I like to apply my eye cream last.

I recommend using a gel or water based eye product for the nighttime to help prevent puffiness in the morning. Watch the Nighttime Skincare Routine video for more tips.

Reduces the signs of aging like fine lines, puffiness and wrinkles. A combination of active peptides targets the under-eye puffiness. This eye complex revitalizes and protects eye contour to reduce signs of fatigue. Suitable for all skin types.

Finally I like to apply a lip mask to keep my lips hydrated and prevent them from chapping.
