WHAT TO DO AFTER A FACIAL

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR SKIN AFTER YOUR APPOINTMENT

Just had a facial at Skin Devotee Facial Studio? Post-facial care can help support hydration, reduce unnecessary irritation and protect the results of your treatment.

Freshly treated skin may be more sensitive than usual, especially after exfoliation, extractions or other corrective techniques.

For the next 24–48 hours, keep your routine simple, avoid unnecessary irritation and protect your skin from excessive sun exposure.

THE FIRST 24–48 HOURS AFTER A FACIAL

The first day or two after a facial is generally a good time to let the skin settle.

Depending on the treatment you received, your esthetician may give you more specific instructions. For a standard facial, the following principles are a useful starting point:

  • Keep your skincare routine gentle and uncomplicated.
  • Use moisturizer as needed to maintain comfort and hydration.
  • Wear sunscreen and avoid unnecessary prolonged sun exposure.
  • Avoid aggressive exfoliation or scrubbing.
  • Try not to pick, squeeze or repeatedly touch freshly treated skin.

If you received a peel, microchanneling or another corrective treatment, follow the specific aftercare instructions provided for that service.

KEEP YOUR SKIN HYDRATED

Hydration can help support skin comfort after treatment.

Use a moisturizer or hydrating serum that your skin already tolerates well rather than introducing multiple new products immediately after your facial.

The goal is to support the skin without overwhelming it.

BE THOUGHTFUL WITH MAKEUP

The original guidance for this page recommends avoiding heavy makeup for approximately 24 hours after a facial.

If possible, giving freshly treated skin a little time before applying foundation or concealer can be helpful, particularly after extractions or exfoliation.

If you do need to wear makeup, keep application gentle and use clean tools.

WHEN TO RESTART RETINOL, ACIDS AND EXFOLIANTS

Avoiding exfoliating acids, scrubs and retinol for at least 48 hours following a deeper facial treatment is a useful general guideline, but treatment intensity and individual skin tolerance vary.

If your esthetician gives you specific instructions about when to restart active skincare, follow those instructions. If your skin still feels unusually sensitive, dry or irritated, do not rush to reintroduce strong actives simply because 48 hours have passed.

When in doubt, contact the studio before restarting anything that may be irritating.

PROTECT YOUR SKIN FROM THE SUN

Freshly exfoliated or treated skin can be more vulnerable to environmental stress.

Use daily broad-spectrum sunscreen and avoid prolonged direct sun exposure, especially during the first 24–48 hours after treatment.

Avoid tanning beds and prolonged sun exposure during this period.

Sun protection is especially important if your treatment involved exfoliation, resurfacing or brightening techniques.

DO NOT TRY TO IMPROVE THE RESULTS BY DOING MORE

One of the easiest ways to irritate freshly treated skin is to become overly enthusiastic afterward.

Avoid adding extra masks, peels, scrubs or unfamiliar active products simply because your skin looks especially smooth or receptive.

Your facial has already done the work it was intended to do. Give the skin time to respond before adding more stimulation.

This is particularly important for acne-prone or sensitive skin, where over-treatment can create more inflammation rather than better results.

WHAT IS NORMAL AFTER A FACIAL?

How your skin looks immediately after treatment depends on the facial and your individual skin.

Some people leave with calm, hydrated skin and immediate glow. Others may experience temporary pinkness or sensitivity, particularly after extractions, exfoliation or more corrective techniques.

Your esthetician can tell you what to expect based on the treatment performed.

If something feels unusually uncomfortable or you are concerned about how your skin is responding, contact the studio rather than trying to correct it yourself with additional products.

MAINTAIN YOUR RESULTS BETWEEN FACIALS

Good aftercare does not end after 48 hours.

Long-term results are supported by a consistent home routine, appropriate products and a professional treatment schedule that reflects your skin’s needs.
