My Nighttime Skincare Routine

Nighttime Skincare Routine for Winter Dryness by Joanna Kula owner of Skin Devotee Facial Studio

As winter weather continues to create a really dry environment for my skin, I focus on keeping it healthy by nourishing it and adding a lot of hydration back into my skin.

To achieve this, I use a skincare routine that combines ingredients and techniques that will leave my skin glowing the next day.

Nighttime Skincare Routine Steps

Step 1 - Double Cleanse

For the first cleanse, I wash my face with an oil cleanser to remove all impurities, sunscreen and make-up, and then use a wash cloth to remove it.

For the second cleanse, I use a gentle cleanser that will not strip my skin.

Step 2 - Detox Mask

I use a mask to purify my skin. I apply and leave the mask on for 5 minutes.

I follow this up with a toner for my morning and nighttime skincare routines.

For this routine I'm using a resurfacing toner with 10% Glycolic acid because it exfoliates my skin without irritating it or causing it to react.

Step 3 - Apply A Serum

I love Recovery Serum since it helps to balance, heal and nourish my skin. I amp it up a little bit by mixing a booster with it.

Mixing a booster with a serum will always help to augment the serum's benefits for your skin.

Step 4 - Hydrating Mask

Instead of a moisturizing cream, I use a hydrating mask that can also intensely hydrate and sooth the parched skin during these harsh cold days of winter.

A hydrating mask is also good for doing a "lazy mask", where you can apply and massage it in, go to sleep with it on, and then remove it in the morning when you cleanse your skin.

I use a dime size amount to massage into my skin, until my face looks like a glazed donut. Yum!

Pro Tips

When it comes to face massage, there are only 2 rules:

  1. Always lift as you move in an upward direction and glide sideways
  2. Never drag the face down

Step 5 - Eyes & Lips

I like to apply my eye cream last.

I recommend using a gel or water based eye product for the nighttime to help prevent puffiness in the morning.

Finally I like to apply a lip mask to keep my lips hydrated and prevent them from chapping.
